Frequently Asked Questions about Autoflo Humidifiers
If you're interested in buying a humidifier and you've never heard of Autoflo, here are some common questions about this brand of humidifiers. Visit this section for more general common questions about humidifiers and humidity. You can also read frequently asked questions about our other brands.
Why is an AutoFlo unit a good humidifier to buy when there are many
other brands out there?
AutoFlo is one of the oldest original lines of Humidifiers that exist on
today's market place. The AutoFlo Model 150 was the first complete whole
house humidifier made. Their complete and varied line of models allows
you to work in just about any humidification situation.
Can bypass styles of units work on either the supply or the return side
of the forced air system?
The 200P, 250, and the 800BP are all designed to mount on either the
hot air or supply side of the system while the 97 is intended for the cold
air or return side of the system. However any of these models can be
installed on either the supply or return with only a very small loss of
efficiency.
How is a complete whole house humidifier such as the 200P or 97
different from smaller, portable humidifier?
The whole house units differs from the portables in several ways:
- the whole house units cover the complete home while the portable models
units are designed primarily for one room.
- The whole house are connected directly to the house water supply
while the portable units must be refilled by hand daily.
How are drain units like the Model 250 or the SC15 different from
recirculating Models like the 200P, 800BP, and the 97?
A drain unit does not recirculate the water on the pad or filter that is
not evaporated, but drains it away as waste water, while the recirculating"
units hold the water not evaporated in a water reservoir. The drain models
"normally are used in hard water areas with a lot of minerals, to help
reduce buildup.
Why does the Model SC15 not need a bypass duct?
The SC15 has an air scoop that extends into the ductwork to catch
the air, and force it through the pad or filter, and back into the duct.
Why can't the Model SC15 be mounted on a downflow furnace?
The SC15 can be used on an upflow or sideflow or horizontal furnace
because the air baffle can be changed to direct the flow of air for these
styles on furnace. However with the downflow style of furnace where the
airflow is moving downward the air tends to push the water running
down the filter or pad off the pad and into the furnace ductwork.
Why is the Model SC15 better than the bypass models in some
applications?
In some applications or furnace configurations, such as those where is no access to the return air duct or return side of the air supply system, a bypass style of humidifier will not work while the Model SC15 is totally
self contained, and needs only hot air to work.
Why has the atomizing style of humidifier like the AutoFlo 300 that
sprayed a fine mist of water directly into the ductwork fallen out of style?
The internal supply duct air temperatures have fallen with the furnace
design efficiency changes, and many times will not let the unit turn or in some cases, can result in the water sprayed into the duct not being completely evaporated, and thus corrosion results.
